SEPSIS OF UNKNOWN CAUSE            


Recommended First Line - Cefotaxime + Ciprofloxacin / Gent



Common pathogens                      Appropriate Antibiotics



E. coli                                                 Ciprofloxacin

Other Enterobacteriaceae                     3rd Gen Cephalosporins or Aminoglycosides

Gram-negative bacilli                            Penicillin, Cipro

Staphylococcus aureus                          Fluclox / Vanc + Gent

Staphylococcus epidermidis                   Vanc + Gent +/- Rifampicin

Enterococcus                                        Penicillin + Gent

Candida                                               Anti-fungal
