Recommended First Line - Ganciclovir


Usually Viral
  • coxsackie A or B
  • echoviruses
  • HIV
  • polio
  • mumps
  • influenza
  • CMV

Common pathogens                       Appropriate Antibiotics


Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease)        Ceftriaxone


Other causative organisms are rare, but include -
  • Chlostridium
  • Strep pyogenes
  • N. meningitidis
  • Salmonella 
  • S. aureus
  • Legionella
  • Mycoplasma
