Trigger agents for malignant hyperthermia

  • All potent inhalational agents
  • All depolarising muscle relaxants: succinylcholine, decamethonium

Safe agents

All other anaesthetic drugs including:

  • N2O
  • thiopentone
  • benzodiazepines
  • droperidol
  • ketamine
  • etomidate
  • propofol
  • narcotics
  • non-depolarising muscle relaxants
  • anticholinergics
  • anticholinesterases
  • local anaesthetics 
Avoid verapamil, diltiazem since potential hyperkalaemia if dantrolene given.
